Legal Counsel and Director of Markets Department appointed today to the Israel Antitrust Authority
Adv. Michal Cohen will serve as Legal Counsel to the Authority and Uriel Citroen will head the Markets Department
Today (Sunday), the tenders committee headed by Deputy Attorney General Adv. Meir Levin selected two new department directors at the Israel Antitrust Authority.
Adv. Michal Cohen was selected as Legal Counsel and Director of the Legal Department of the Antitrust Authority, and Uriel Citroen was selected as Director of the Markets Department.
Michal has a bachelor's degree in law with distinction from Tel Aviv University, a bachelor's degree in economics with high distinction from Tel Aviv University, and a master's degree in law and economics EMLE with distinction through the Erasmus program. She interned at the State Attorney's economic department and also began her work as a lawyer there. She joined the Antitrust Authority in 2006 as Deputy Legal Counsel (criminal) and led the handling of the LPG company cartel case. In 2013 she became Deputy Legal Counsel (civil) and led the financial sanctions revolution at the Authority. Michal will replace Adv. Uri Schwartz, who served as the Authority's Legal Counsel until June 2018.
Uriel Citroen has a bachelor's degree in economics from the Hebrew University and a master's degree in law and public policy with distinction. He began his work at the Antitrust Authority in 2011 and since then has served as the head of the transportation and energy team in the economic department. Since the beginning of 2018 he has served as Deputy Chief Economist.
Uriel's appointment to the position of Director of the Markets Department completes the process of internal reorganization and the creation of a new department at the Antitrust Authority – the Markets Department. The Markets Department is made up of five teams, each of which specializes in different industries, and they are responsible for reviewing mergers and transactions and providing internal government counsel for promoting competition in the industries for which they are responsible. Adv. Elad Makdesi was recently selected to serve as Deputy Director of the Markets Department.
